Celebrating Failure: Assignment 26
1.) This past semester, a friend of mine convinced me to start trading stocks on Robinhood. After seeing his gains from trading options, I decided that I could jump aboard as well and profit on the crazy market conditions. Very quickly, I realized that it wasn't that simple and I saw option after option expire worthlessly. I kept trying to purchase new options but each time coming up empty.
2.) After fruitless tries, I realized that I wasn't really taking the time to research or put in the time to make educated decisions. I was blindly letting money go in hopes that it would pay off. I wasn't investing, I was gambling. I quickly realized that maybe I don't have what it takes to be an options trader. I realized that I should learn from my mistakes now before I become it becomes too late. Some might believe that I should have tried to learn to be better at it, but seeing my friend lose thousands made me think twice.
3.) Failure is something nobody likes to talk about. We are always told to hide our failures as they show weakness. I for one believe that being able to talk about and acknowledge your failures shows that you are a strong person who is willing to change for the better. In my years of working in the restaurant industry, I've seen colleagues and managers deal with failure in different ways. Those who openly admit and correct it always come out on top. This class has helped prove to myself that failure isn't always a bad thing. We shouldn't seek failure but we also shouldn't be afraid of it. Failure is an opportunity to find new ways to grow and develop as both a person and entrepreneur.
Hey Chaplin,
ReplyDeletethat goal is definitely a challenging goal, trading stocks is something that i haven't personally tried yet because i feel that i need to educate myself on it first. I understand why you chose to not continue on and i honestly would do the same. Although you might have not succeeded this time on your goal, you now know more about trading stocks than before and you can expand your knowledge on it and try again in the future.
Hey Chaplin,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I really enjoyed reading you story about a fail in your life that happened recently. i think you have really positive outcome when it cam to your fail. I also think that everything happens for a reason and when we fail we learn a lot and always take something important away. It seems like you learned from this really well and will take that lesson with you in the future. Overall, great post and thanks for sharing. It is not easy sharing a story about failure with total strangers online! haha

Hi Chaplin,
ReplyDeleteI think you have a great understand of why failing is important. There absolutely is a stigma around showing your failure and it is typically something that a lot of people want to hide from others and sometimes even themselves. It is crucial that we acknowledge our failures that way we can learn from them and move closer toward our next success. Thanks for sharing!
