Idea Napkin No. 2: Assignment 19
1. I am Chaplin Fertig, a fifth-year business student at the University of Florida. I work at Crane Ramen as the lead server. I love working in fast paced, teamwork-oriented environments. I’ve been working in restaurants since I was 16 and I’ve loved every job! I meet so many different people in a single day, and I love interacting with people. This business would allow me to serve people in a completely different way. As a server, I get fulfilled when I do my job right and the customer gets the food and leaves happy. As a business owner, it would be very similar. I would love it if my business were able to make even one person happier.
2. I want to create an app that helps UF students deal with the stresses of college. I don’t think the current resources that UF offers is adequate. For me, it was hard to find a consistent schedule that worked. This app would allow students to talk whenever they felt the need: whether it’s Wednesday afternoon or Friday night at 11 pm.
3. This app would be available to anyone who goes to UF. It could be available to incoming freshmen as soon as they attend Preview. There is a lot of different things our customer could talk about and have in common with each other: stress, relationship problems, homesickness, sexual assault, and so on.
4. Customers will pay to use the service because mental wellbeing is priceless. As someone who has lost a family member to suicide, I can say this with confidence: there is no limit to the amount of money I would spend on myself or my loved ones to see a therapist.
5. What sets me apart from everyone else is that I have the passion for this app. I believe wholeheartedly in this service; with my drive and commitment this app would be a success.
There are definitely aspects of my business concept that are weaker. The who are you offering it to confuses me a little. Some of my classmates picked up on that as well. Because I don’t believe that UF students should have to pay for this—it should be included with tuition. While I understand that that might make my “customer” the university. I think that the students need to show interest and utilization first. Another thing I took away from the comments was that they wanted to know a little bit more about me. So, I shared more specifics about where I work and my personal background with mental health.
