Your Entrepreneurship Story: Assignment 3

My parents’ entrepreneurial spirits inspire me so much.  Over the last 40 years, my parents have invested in real estate in Fort Lauderdale—they own and manage eight rental properties in the heart of downtown. My mom also owns her own veterinary clinic just a few doors down from my parents’ house. My dad was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale and loves the city; but he grew up in a low-income family and didn’t go to college. My mom, on the other hand, comes from a wealthy mid-Western family and is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. They have persevered through any and all obstacles—it’s really incredible.

Even at a time when women weren’t usually veterinarians and definitely didn’t own their own practices, my mom had the passion to start her own veterinary practice. My dad was not fazed by his lack of higher education; but instead, he chose to invest in the only city he’s ever called home.

This summer, I enrolled in ENT3003 because I hope to capture a glimmer of their love of business and management. In the list of electives, this class stood out because it immediately sounded like it was going to be an inspirational class. Entrepreneurs are leaders and innovators, and someday I hope to accomplish great things at the helm of my own business.

  1. Hi Chaplin,
I also aspire to become a real-estate agent like my parents. They own several properties in South Florida as well. I wish you could have expanded a little more on their journey through becoming those wealthy entrepreneurs considering that the journey is one of the most essential parts that keeps them stable where they don't need to take any risks.

  2. Hi Chaplin, thank you for sharing your story, I really enjoyed reading it. My story also was heavily influenced by my family, my parents and grandfather are entrepreneurs and have always encouraged me to seek out opportunities that I could use to make my own business. I think that this class will be an opportunity for us to think more creatively!
